MAWDlabs is a digital innovation studio created by MAWD to explore the possibilities of experiential design using forward-thinking technologies such as AI, VR, AR, the metaverse and beyond.
Limoncello, summer tans and blue skies inspired this private club concept, situated precariously on a cliffside in Capri. An AI led design exercise informed by travels undertaken in the summer of 2022 and undertaken for the joy of its execution, the freedom of AI technology allowed MAWD to stretch the boundaries of imagination (and budget), resulting in a chic and inviting aesthetic reminiscent of James Bond on one of his better days. MAWDlabs explores the future of virtual amenities and professional collaboration through its Metaverse Studio for parent design firm MAWD. An experiential lounge designed as a space in which the studio’s three global offices can congregate and collaborate in real time. While MAWD sees the physical workplace as necessary for authentic professional engagement, the Meta Studio and its amenities aim to explore how digital design can encourage similar engagement in a virtual work environment. As the blurring of lines between the digital and physical realms continue to accelerate, MAWDlabs is re-imagining interior design, real estate, architecture, product and and art in this new realm. Our intention is to partner with like-minded brands to bring their visions to life through AI, experiential technology as technology and opportunities evolve.
While recent attention-grabbing announcements from some of the world’s largest large companies have drawn eyeballs, the development and evolution of the metaverse has been an ongoing process of at least 30 years. Anticipated as the next evolution of the internet, the key difference between what is and what will be is that it will be accessible in 3D and built on decentralized data architecture. Virtualization, in the form of AR and VR, has set the stage for the metaverse by practically integrating immersive, emotionally driven content into our daily lives.
While the metaverse has the opportunity to change how we live, move, work and play, it will have a profound impact on how people interact through design. As users interact with content, their sense of the virtual world will allow them to have emotional, engaging experiences regardless of the physical boundaries like geography and physics, allowing immersive environments to become a powerful medium in which people interact and connect.
